My Filofax Collection

My planner collection is growing and I need to make sure that I am getting optimum use out of all my Filofaxes. I love collecting the different styles and colours and for variety I swap and change around with their contents as my planning and organising evolves. No one system stays the same for long as I find my way to planning efficiency. Life changes and so plans change - using my Filofaxes keeps my ideas fresh and more creative.

Here is a list of all my planners and their current uses. There is only one that lies empty at the moment and that is because I need to match its colour with its use - the fluro-pink is so bright and cheerful and is crying out for fun and frivolity to be stored inside. Perhaps it could be a party planner - but we don't have parties here. Maybe it could be a fashion planner but I'm afraid I'm not into fashion, just wearing what I want to wear and not what fashion houses dictate. A Bucket list planner could be a good idea mapping out plans to put my wish lists into action - but I don't have a bucket list as I am content with what I have. I'll just have to keep thinking. Meanwhile here is my list as it stands at the moment.

My main 'families' are the Maldens and the Originals. The Maldens to me are the workhorses that take handling in their stride, are comforting to touch and satisfying to use. The Originals are exciting and colourful and they to me are the eye candy of my planning empire being so simply stylish.

PS I may use my Fluro-pink as a project planner. Now that could be exciting and fun!

Filofax Finking Friday 5

Perhaps I should use a different Filofax for each season,
or maybe one for each month,
or perhaps different ones for different celebrations such as Easter, Halloween or Christmas.

Seasons -
Spring - Pear
Summer - Red
Autumn - Brown
Winter - White? Now I don't think Filofax do a white, do they. Perhaps an ice blue?

I'll keep thinking.

Crochet Cover for my Learning Filofax

Ever get a fuzzy warm sort of feeling when thinking and handling your Filofax. If I didn't before I do now with this crocheted cover. The basic stitching was UKdc.

There's an added bit of bling with the button fastener.

And the yarn matches really well with the Dark Aqua of the A5 Original.

It looks equally at home covering the Fluro Pink ...

and the Lilac.

Other Filofax colours hidden in there are Burnt Orange, Portobello Blue, Aqua, Kingfisher Blue and Pear.

Filofax Finking Friday 4

Why do I want another Filofax?
Why do I need another Filofax?
Why do I need to collect
colours, types, sizes
of Filofax?
Is it an addiction?
Complete-ism?
A hobby?
?

Filofax as a Recipe Binder - 2

And the plan?

Well that was to do with the making of a Recipe Binder

"One of the beauties of a Filofax is that it is a ring binder. I could just take out the page that I wanted and leave the rest in a safe place. It would not matter if the page got splashed and my precious Filofax would remain in a clean condition. I could have sections for Cakes, Pies, Meals, Drinks etc. "

My Lilac Original A5 was requisitioned, the contents to be recycled, and off I went - cutting out the pages from my tatty recipe notebook, slicing them straight, hole punching them and placing them on the rings - all while listening to the Podcast on the Philofaxy blog.

I'd just stuck the collected recipes in the notebook in any old order so I set about ordering them into 2 sections - one for Savoury and one for Sweet. Next I made some index pages on the computer putting the different recipes under the following headings. (The recipes I had, dictated the headings.)

MEALS
PARTY / BBQ
VEGETABLES
PICKLES / CHUTNEYS
BREAD
TARTS
PUDDINGS
BISCUITS
SWEETS
CAKES
DRINKS

How many people collect recipes and then don't bother making them? Many of the recipes I had collected I'd never made. Now there's no point in keeping them if I don't try them so my next task was numbering the pages. I didn't put any numbered pages on my index/contents page though. I'm going to number the page when I've tried the recipe. That way I can see what I've made and what I haven't - a sort of tracking of my trying new recipes.

My final task was to make a front dashboard which is just the original transparent dashboard with some magazine pictures behind. One can be seen in the pic below but there are about 6 others which I will swap each time I try a new recipe. On the back of some of these pictures I've stuck the recipe for the dish in the picture.

My first tryout will be Egg stuffed Peppers and Tomatoes, a page marked with the Filofax ruler.

Filofax as a Recipe Binder - 1

I am debating whether to use one of my Filofaxes as a Recipe Binder.

At the moment my collection of recipes are stuck into an ordinary notebook.

The recipes have been picked up from friends, relatives, magazines and newspapers, are written on bits of scrap paper, envelopes or simply just cut out or stuck in.

I'm wondering whether this motley selection of collected instructions for cakes, meals, pies and pastries would be suitable for a ring planner.

They are a record of my forays into the kitchen documenting my blunders, failures or successes in the culinary world.

This book has seen some hard knocks, spilt ingredients, greasy fingers and floury hands.

It has suffered greatly.

No, perhaps I'd better not put my pristine Filofax in this hazardous situation - it's just asking for trouble. Or maybe, yes. One of the beauties of a Filofax is that it is a ring binder. I could just take out the page that I wanted and leave the rest in a safe place. It would not matter if the page got splashed and my precious Filofax would remain in a clean condition. I could have sections for Cakes, Pies, Meals, Drinks etc. Yeah, problem solved. I wonder if anyone else uses a Filofax in a kitchen situation.

PS for Crofter, who commented on this post - I hope I've helped. I found the recipes here.

Filofax Finking Friday 3

Perhaps I should colour code and write in different colours.

Perhaps not. It's easier to write just in one.
